We got to be mushers ourselves at Martin Buser's kennel. We got our own sled and six dogs and mushed out for about five miles for a cookout with other folks. This was the real deal. On the way out Jack drove and on the way back, Bernice drove the dogs. These were dogs that Martin had in training and would be the dogs used in future Iditarods. These dogs really moved. And yes, Jack rolled the sled on a tight turn and Bernice didn't during the 5 mile trek she was driving. We were on our own during this time with an occasional snowmobile in the distance to make sure we didn't get lost or in trouble. What a great experience. It gives you a true appreciation of what the dogs and mushers go through during the Iditarod. We had great sunny weather with fresh snow while they go through much tougher trails in blizzard conditions.
